Scum & Villainy Cantina in Hollywood – The Geekiest Bar You’ll Love
“Mos Eisley Spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum & villainy.”
Can you guess what movie this quote is from?
Here’s a hint: Happy Star Wars Day!
May the 4th Be With You!
May the 4th is the one day of the year when people can proudly let their inner geeks out to play, and no one judges them.
But if you are visiting LA, and you’re looking for a place to be geeky any time of the year, then Scum & Villainy Cantina in Hollywood is the place for you.
It’s not only named after that quote from the first Star Wars movie, the interior looks like the Mos Eisley Cantina.
SAVC opened in April 2017. It was the vision of Star Wars geek J.C. Reifenberg and his then-girlfriend-now-fiancée, Jen.
It was envisioned as a temporary pop-up bar that would have a fun run during the hot days of summer, then fade into the sunset of autumn.
But there were 3 things that J.C. kept hearing.
One – It was great to come to a bar where a geek could be himself, herself or themselves.
Two – It was REALLY great to meet other people who were just as geeky as they were.
Three – Everyone lamented its upcoming end.
So Scum & Villainy Cantina made the leap from pop-up to permanent, with a great location on Hollywood Boulevard near Vine Street.
The theme isn’t limited to Star Wars, though. Jen calls the cantina a “Sci Fi Safehouse.” Fans of Star Trek, Spiderman, Justice League, Thor, Aquaman – basically any sci-fi/fantasy fandom – are welcome!
Dobby is perched on a shelf, and the first night I visited, my waitress wore her Slytherin uniform. Being a huge HP fan (that’s Harry Potter, if you’re not into fandom), I felt right at home! (I’m Gryffindor, by the way).
Their fun cocktail menu features items like:
- Wakanda Forever
- Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster
- Dracarys
- Dumbledore Special
- The Outlander
- Witness Me, Furiosa
- Hobbiton Ale
Are you the designated driver? (Yeah, me, too.)
SAVC has you covered, with mocktails, like:
- Cocknocker
- Jogan Fruit Punch (next on my list to try)
- The 1st Avenger
Prefer beer? They have tap, bottles, cans, IPAs, ciders, and some fun beers like:
- Space Dust IPA
- Viking Space Probe Double IPA
- Metallica Enter Night Pilsner
- Sabre Tooth Squirrel Amber (Not kidding!)
And if you’re looking for some grub, SAVC has you covered there as well, with fun and yummy foods like:
- Falcon Burger (I’ve had this – very good!)
- Pizza the Hutt
- Starfleet Nachos
- Rocket and Groot Salad
Sundays are for brunch, with normal food, like:
- Breakfast Burrito (I had this – it was Stellar! (pun intended))
- Cinnamon French Toast
- Bacon
- Eggs
There are plenty of seating options.
Choose your spot at the bar, like Luke Skywalker did.
Sit in a recessed booth, where Han Solo conducted his business.
There’s the overflow Spaceport, the first thing you see as you walk in.
Or meet new friends at the large tables.
Waiters & waitresses are costumed (remember my Slytherin waitress from above?).
And cosplay is always welcome!
Their week looks something like this:
Sunday mornings – Brunch
Mondays – Game Night (you’re playing games, not watching Monday Night Football)
Tuesdays – Twin Sun Taco Tuesdays
Wednesdays – Trivia Quest (teams of up to 6 people, think Leonard, Sheldon, et al.)
Thursdays – Cosmic Karaoke
Weekends are just fun!
Seriously, SAVC is a fun place to come, with good food, great drinks, fantastic atmosphere, and where everyone is welcome!
So strap on your lightsaber or grab your wand and head to Scum & Villainy Cantina, where you will meet people just as geeky as you!
Scum & Villainy Cantina is located at 6377 Hollywood Blvd Los Angeles, California
